2018 Ken Shibuya Next Level Camp

November 30, 2018 & December 1 - 2, 2018

Ken Shibuya's 6th Annual Next Level Camp is back at the Tidewater Volleyball Center starting November 30th with a special Skill Sessions... Leading in to the two day "Next Level Skills Camp" December 1st & 2nd.

****WHAT'S NEW THIS YEAR?!****

2 - Friday's session will be for ALL ages, boys and girls. Will feature TWO options: Next Level Setting run by Ken Shibuya, and Elite Attacking led by Brad Keller.

Coach Shibuya is starting his eighth season as the Stanford Cardinal Men’s Volleyball Associate Head Coach in 2017-18 and his 13th overall on staff. In that time Stanford claimed the 2010 NCAA Championship and finished second in 2014. A veteran coach at the collegiate men’s level of 16 years, he has won four National Championships with two different programs.

Internationally, Shibuya has been the head coach for the 2011, 2014, and 2015 USA Boys Youth National Team. In the Summer of 2015 he led the team to its highest finish ever (seventh out of 20 teams) at the FIVB World Championships in Argentina. He has been a staff member of eight youth national teams since 2002 he has won two gold medals and a silver.

Shibuya is skilled in many aspects of coaching the game but his forte is in training setters. Many have gone on to post collegiate success. They include:

KAWIKA SHOJI (Stanford ‘10) – Current US National Team, 2010 AVCA NPOY, 2010 NCAA Championship Co-MVP, 3x AVCA All-American

EVAN BARRY (Stanford ’12) – 2012 AVCA All-American, 2 seasons European Pro-Leagues

RICKY ZIEGLER (Juniata ’05) – 2005 AVCA DIII NPOY, 2x National Champion, Spanish League Super Six Setter

MATT WERLE (Juniata ’09) – 2009 AVCA DII NPOY, 4x National Champion, Former US National Team, current Head Men's Volleyball Coach at Grand Canyon University

JAMES SHAW (Stanford ’16) - 2016 MPSF POY, 2016 Lloy Ball Award (Setter of the Year), 2x AVCA All-American, 4x All-MPSF, 2014 NCAA All-Tourney, Currently Starting Setter for Padova (Italian League)

We are excited to bring back Brad Keller, UCLA Men’s Assistant Volleyball Coach, to help Coach Shibuya with this camp. Keller, a former outside hitter at Loyola Marymount, begins his seventh season at UCLA. With a reputation for building championship-caliber teams, Keller has spent the last 14 seasons on the collegiate level, including four years at USC where he helped lead the Trojans to the 2009 NCAA title match.

Keller was also instrumental in helping Shibuya build the 2014-15 USA Boys Youth National Team into the most successful BYNT in the history of the program. His expertise in training and developing defensive and offensive systems was integral to that success. This year Coach Keller will lead Friday night's Camp with Coach Shibuya (12/1).

Additionally this year Coach Shibuya is bringing two new faces to the Virginia Beach area; Carson Clark, US Men's National Team Opposite, and Kevin Burch, Ohio State University Men's Volleyball Assistant Coach

Clark was a member of the 2014 FIVB World League team that won a gold medal. Additionally he won a gold medal at the 2013 NORCECA Continental Championship. During his collegiate carreer, he was voted Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 NCAA National Championship as UC Irvine won its second title during Clark's time on the team. Named AVCA First Team All American and All-MPSF.

Burch returned to Ohio State Men’s Volleyball as a full-time assistant coach in May 2015 and immediately delivered on back-to-back NCAA championships (2016, 2017), extending an incredible streak of seven consecutive academic years as a national champion (2016-17 – NCAA Men’s National Champions – Ohio State (assistant coach); 2015-16 – NCAA Men’s National Champions – Ohio State (assistant coach); 2014-15 – NCAA Women’s National Champions – Penn State (director of operations); 2013-14 – NCAA D-III Men’s National Champions – Springfield College (assistant coach); 2012-13 – NCAA Men’s National Champions – UC Irvine (assistant coach); 2011-12 – NCAA D-III Men’s National Champions – Springfield College (assistant coach); 2010-11 – NCAA Men’s National Champions – Ohio State (volunteer assistant coach).
