What is the Tidewater Volleyball Association?
The Tidewater Volleyball Association is a non-profit sports organization dedicated to the promotion of the game of Volleyball in the Tidewater Area. The Tidewater Volleyball Association was formed in 1965 by a group of individuals who wanted to enjoy the game of volleyball. Today it is one of the largest and oldest volleyball organizations on the east coast. Here are a few things that the Tidewater Volleyball Association offers to the residents of Southeast Virginia.
TVA has three facilities, all located on Dean Drive in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Tidewater Volleyball Center:
The Tidewater Volleyball Center is a FIVE court indoor facility complete with brand new air-conditioning systems and updated bathrooms. This facility is home to a Pro-Shop and Snack Bar to help provide residents access to all their volleyball needs. We host leagues, camps, and drop-in play in our facility all year round.
TVA SAND Center:
The TVA SAND Center is the largest indoor sand volleyball facility in the state of Virginia. Our facility boasts four Olympic size volleyball courts, a snack bar, and spacious bathrooms. This facility was opened October of 2015 and is nothing like anything you will find in the area.
TVC West is a practice facility located just north of the Tidewater Volleyball Center across the gated parking lot. This facility is mainly for practices held by Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club, but is also used for TVA Youth Camps and Clinics.
Youth Volleyball Camps and Clinics
TVA is home to arguably the best youth program in the state. We have received awards from the Virginian-Pilot as BEST OF Virginia Beach as a Children's Fitness Program. We work with local coaches and athletes to create an environment that is both fun, challenging, and diverse. We offer camps for all skill levels and are known for partnering with some of the top coaches around the nation to provide camps that are second to none.
College/Professional Satellite Camps:
In the past five years TVA has had the opportunity to work with over 20 different NCAA coaching staffs to provide learning experiences for area youth. Many of these partnerships have helped bring attention to the area. In addition to working with college coaching staffs, we have also had the opportunity to work with professional and Olympic athletes such as Ryan Ammerman (2014), Jayson Jablonsky (2014), and three-time Olympic gold medalist Misty May-Treanor (2013 & 2015). We are always looking to work with professionals to help bring our area to a higher level and we are very fortunate to be a place that these coaches and athletes can come to share their knowledge of the game.
TVA prides itself as a place where children of all ages can come and learn the game we love. Our caring and professional staff work with ages as young as three and as old as 18 to provide a safe, fun learning environment to the children of Hampton Roads. Our camps and clinics have won the BEST OF Virginia Beach awards the past two years from the Virginian-Pilot in the area of Children's Fitness Program. We are excited to see what is in store for these children as they progress through our challenging curriculum.
Tidewater Volleyball hosts some of the highest level adult leagues in the area. These leagues are both held on the hard court, and in the sand.
Our beach leagues have been a staple of our organization for over 50 years. These leagues comprise of the majority of TVA's 2000+ members. We are excited to announce that we are offering beach volleyball leagues year round thanks to the opening of the TVA Sand Facility. During the Summer our beach leagues are some of the largest on the east coast, comprising of more than 200 teams on yearly basis. These leagues are capped off with a finals day tournament and a finals party located at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront.
Hard Court Leagues
Our indoor leagues have been around for over 20 years at our main facility. These leagues mainly comprise of teams of six or four, and we offer men's, women's and coed divisions. These leagues tend to be seasonal due to the popularity of the sand game in the summer time. We partner with other league providers as well to offer a variety of leagues for our local residents. We are also home to the largest social dodge ball league in the state thanks to our partnership with Backyard Sports Club. We work hard to make the atmosphere for our leagues welcoming and helpful so that you can be happy to make this place a second home.
Tidewater Volleyball is one of the oldest Beach Volleyball organizations in the nation. We host as many as nine different tournaments per year including including our BIG MONEY series. Here are some highlights about our beach tournaments.
All of our outdoor beach volleyball tournaments and leagues are held at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Check-in for tournaments is located at 9th street.
TVA is a member of Volley America. the largest grass roots outdoor volleyball organization in the United States. Nationally Ranked Travel Teams
The Tidewater Volleyball Center is home to the state's number one junior travel program, Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club. Here is a couple excerpts from the Coastal website.
Coastal VA Volleyball Club, serving the Hampton Roads Area of Virginia since 1994, is a nationally recognized youth volleyball training club. CVVC is committed to providing quality physical and personal development through practice and competition at the local and national levels. The club was founded to provide an intense and competitive learning environment for Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina’s most gifted athletes. The program focuses on the development of the athlete as a player and a person with emphasis placed on the athlete understanding the importance of a team concept.
In our commitment to developing the athlete, Coastal will only form as many teams for which we have quality coaches. We believe it is more important to provide quality training for our athletes rather than quantity of teams for the club.
Coastal's Commitment to College Prep:
This is one of the MAIN areas where Coastal stands high above the other clubs in the Hampton Roads area. For the last 20 years, Coastal has led the way in providing their athletes with the knowledge and guidance in the recruitment process.
We are also proud to say that Coastal's first priority in placing student athletes into college programs is to assess the athlete and place them into an environment that is suitable for them. In other words, the "right fit" for them. Many programs are more concerned with placing teams into the biggest programs possible to make the program look good to outsiders. Coastal's priority is to place athletes into programs where they can succeed both academically and athletically regardless of the level of play. We find it as rewarding to send our athletes to DIII and NAIA programs as it is to send them to big DI programs.
Perhaps equally important is the fact that Coastal prepares their graduating classes with the knowledge, focus, and attitude necessary to be successful at the collegiate level of play. Many of Coastal's graduating class earned considerable playing time as freshmen in college, as well as eventually being named team captains and All-Conference selections by the completion of their collegiate careers. This is a direct tribute to the coaching strategies of the staff and their continued effort to produce high quality athletes who are able to play at the next level. Check out the alumni page to see where our athletes have gone to play.
We are extremely proud of our boys program as well. Since its inception in 1998, our boys program has continued to grow and excel. It is unparalleled to any other in the Hampton Roads and surrounding areas. Many of our alumni have been recruited to play at D1 and other collegiate levels as well while earning top honors on the court throughout their college careers.
