Just a note from our Executive Director,
As the winter holiday season quickly approaches, and many of us have begun to put up Christmas decorations to help bring some joy in our lives,
I wanted to take this opportunity to take a pause to share what I am truly grateful and thankful for.
I am grateful for my staff.
When the pandemic forced us to close, I had only returned to the gym for limited hours as my husband and I gave birth to our first child in January.
My team jumped in and created online programs for our youth participants which included fitness and volleyball training. They had inspiring chats with college athletes
that had returned to the area. We managed to re-open by starting with programs in the parking lot with one ball per participant to running a Fall Recreational
League when the local Recreation Centers were not able to have sports programs.
I am grateful for smiling faces.
Earlier this year, our TVA President lost his battle with cancer. His continued dream of providing volleyball for all ages to our Hampton Roads area,
led us to think outside our normal programs. Although we were not able to run our Summer Beach League on the Oceanfront this year, TVA was able to partner
with another local facility to have beach leagues and beach tournaments. In October, we were able to honor his memory with the only Oceanfront Beach
Volleyball Tournament this year. Every time I see a smiling face of a TVA participant or their family member, I know Steve is smiling down on us.
I am grateful for my family.
I am thankful for my husband. We met through volleyball and our teams competed against each other many times. (My team beat his team every time.)
He has been my rock during these difficult times. I, also, believe family are those who you bring into your circle. I am thankful for my volleyball family. I have watched
our volleyball community support each other during this pandemic.
Not only are we in a challenging time with COVID, but TVA is in the process of beginning its Hard Court Volleyball Programs at the Virginia Beach Sports Center and converting our facility, that we have been at for the past 26 years, into 5 sand volleyball courts. With all these changes in my life this year, I will admit I am nervous, anxious, but excited all at the same time. It is my mission to offer hope in any shape or form to my community and I encourage you to provide hope for your volleyball family.
We will weather this storm together and come out on the other side stronger!
